This blog cronicles the preparation of one hapless athlete in his 20 week preparation for his first adventure race, Gael Force West Adventure Challenge 2009.
HI I did the expert Roar this year. I did the Gaelforce this year as well. The expert roar is the same distance as Gaelforce. For what its worth it think that the Roar is tougher. even though i finished it quicker!. The Kayak is about 2,5 k on a lake. not to bad. The 16K run is all off road, very tough, i would say that 3/4 is up hill, it really takes alot out of the legs, more than the 12K run on gaelforce. next is the 44k cycle, again this is quite tough lots of hills, again tougher than gaelforce, as gael force has only one major hill on the cycle. There is a big descent into keel on the way home which is great . Over all the event this year was well organised, and the weather was great. any way best of luck.
